As the inaugural season for the high school boys’ soccer team begins, excitement and anticipation fill the air. In the final days before the first match, the team focuses on building strong bonds to carry them through the season. With tough competition ahead, players feel a mix of uncertainty and hope.
After coming off of a championship win in the middle school season last year, Miles Pham (9) feels that the pressure is on and plans on improving even more from last season.
“I plan on improving my dribbling and not getting mad at my teammates; I was bad at communicating with them last year, but the kids were smaller, so it was easier to dribble,” Pham said.
As a new team, they don’t have much chemistry going up against teams that have been together for much longer. Nicolas Fuentes (9) feels that soccer is a team sport and that bonding is a key aspect to a good season.
“Especially in soccer it’s not about yourself you know it’s 11 people and we can bond by hanging out outside of school so our chemistry can be better on the field,” Fuentes said.
Luca Grecco (11) agrees that the team needs to build a bond before the start of the season. As the team captain, his job is to keep the team in a positive mood and provide a supportive environment throughout the game no matter the competition.
“I feel like we don’t have chemistry yet, but as the season goes on we will definitely improve,” Grecco said.
Assistant coach Tiffany Mitchell is excited for the season ahead. She is ready to see the team progress together and reach their full potential.
“I’m really excited to watch the boys make history and grow together, this is just the beginning for them,” Mitchell said. “This is going to be something that they remember forever, that they were the first HS soccer team at Angeline.”
Looking ahead, Tyler Herdocia (10) is confident that they will have a successful season. He feels that everyone is playing at their best, so his expectations are high.
“I feel like we will actually win the games because our technical skills are really showing on the field,” Herdocia said.
As the season begins, it is clear that the team is ready to make history.
