The Angeline Academy girls soccer premiere season started off strong with a 9-1 victory over Centennial Middle on January 30.
Lead scorer, Eve Douglas earned six goals for the night, proving to be a dominating force on the field. Malina Bunwat scored two goals and Elise Winterroth scored the remaining goal.
The girls only had a week of practice before their first game took place, so there was a lot to prepare for in a very short time frame. Coach Mitchell, coming from a successful boys soccer season- earning the title of district champs, is focusing on growing the team as a whole.
“We are working on making the girls come together as one team, whether they knew each other or not,” Mitchell explained.
Eighth-grade captains, Winteroth and Douglas, hope to create a positive spirit on the team.
“We try to have fun in warmups and make sure everyone is keeping up a good energy,” Winteroth explained.
Winteroth and Douglas believe communication is key to a strong team.
“We make sure we are vocal on the field,” Douglas said. “We want to motivate the team to succeed.”
Knowing the boy’s team has already secured a district win, many of the girls have their sights set on the same goal.
“I am definitely going to hold the girls to the same standard I held the boys to, and push them hard,” Coach Mitchell explained.
